A Time Before Easy Media
I have been looking back through my old photo libraries of late. I was surprised to realize that I have hardly any high quality media from before 2013. At first I was shocked, but the more I searched it made sense. In the 2010s cameras were rapidly changing with image quality making massive improvements. The digital cameras I had access to were much lower resolution than even the most basic phone cameras of today. While theatre's that were taking production photos did have hi

Acting for the Camera Year 2
Acting for the Camera might be my favorite class I have ever added to a department roster. The students constantly challenge themselves and learn so much. This class is much smaller than last year but has a wonderful vibe.

Good Gracious, so Audacious
I saw this quote by author Case Kenny pop up on my feed today. All I can say is unequivocally yes. Audacity - the willingness to take bold risks can take you far. It is also one of the many qualities fostered by working in the theatre.

YAA, congrats to Gabi!
I went to see one of my students Gabi in Young Artists of America’s production of Working . It was a truly delightful show and I’m so proud of Gabi not only for her strong solos with believable physicalization, but also because she was one of the interviewer/writers for this localized productions. No artist is only one thing and I am glad to see my students get it. I was also quite impressed overal with YAA’s production. I’ve never seen their work before but I can see why Gab

Thespian Festival 2026
Another exciting year at festival with two student recovering superiors one for a monologue and another for playwrighting. There were some hiccups, and wow it was quite the cold winter to be at the far dining hall with no transit help but this will be a weekend of fond memories.

New Floor
Our stage floor has been in rough condition since I arrived at Jemicy. Every show or two massive chunks of the plywood would break up. Evidentially when the floor was originally installed it got wet which is when the issues began. We have installed a new 3/4” MDF deck over the whole stage surface. It’s nice and smooth with no dips.

Prop Letters
One of the coolest and most useful props to make are antiqued letters. They are effective for many time periods and frequently need to be replaced. Our Theatre Design & Production Class has been working on this for about two weeks, many of them have never written this much in cursive.

Visualizing Scenic Transitions
The stage crew of any production has a tough job. They enter the process when much of the show has already been discovered, and have to seamlessly help integrate the technical elements. Witches In Salem became one of the most complex shows ever for scenic transitions. To assist our crew in learning the details of each scene set up I took a photo of each scene with scenic elements in place and labeled who was responsible for placing each item. I created a one page diagram for

Wood graining scenic painting
Our set for WIS is slowly coming together and it is time to start adding some paint treatments. For this show there is a lot of wood, so we are learning how to wood grain.

So Many Seats of Summer
As my ideas about WIS have coalesced I have become realized that the furniture will really set the tone for the many different locations of this show. I have decided to take a side quest this summer and build some chairs and then weave the seats. These will complement the tavern chairs and church pews which we got for free!

Fall Production Selected
We have selected Matt Cox’s “Witches In Salem” for our fall theatre production. This show which is sort of like a cross between Puffs and the Crucible is downright hilarious and poses some thought provoking questions. We are recycling much of the set from Alice By Heart and with a few days of work we already have a significant jump on our set.

Desert Adventure
Rae had a work trip to Arizona and I was invited. We stayed at the beautiful Joshua Tree House in Tucson right outside Saguaro National Park. The only way I can think to describe it is otherworldly, stark, and surprisingly lively.

Fire Safety Fun
When I asked the students what things they might want to learn someone said “how to use a fire extinguisher.” It took all year but the time finally arrived, a friend of Jemicy who happens to be a Baltimore County Fire Fighter came and gave us an educational and hands on lesson.

KSR Clowning Around
Another Year Another KSR. This time as part of the pit crew I was decked out as a clown Lego character. On our journey across the city I made balloon animals, bubbles, and hopefully lots of mirth.
